It's going well!

For the last two weeks I have kept working hard to achieve my goals. The presentations and the conversation course are really helping many students to improve their communicative skills and their writing skills. Students are very pleased with this project. A few students haven't been able to attend the presentations due to their jobs but they hope to be back later this week. Anyway, I think I am helping them achieve their goals.

Making material has been very helpful for the school, teachers are very pleased to have enough and effective material in their classrooms. It definitely helps them achieve their goals in the classroom.

The children class is going well. It´s been a little bit hard since some of them have some problems with the structure, the problem is they do not have any previous experience with the language. These students do not have English classes in their schools so it makes it a bit harder for them to pick up the language.

I have been observing students' performance in order to evaluate the results of this project at the end of the term. At the same time, I am providing students with feedback so that they keep on enhancing their language skills.

Joint Productive Activity!

Joint Productive Activity

Report and Reflections

This time I decided to carry out this activity with the group of children I am working with at my receiving institution. I helped these wonderful and unquiet children to create a joint product. “Posters for daily routines” I began by encouraging collaboration among them, we talked about the importance of collaborating in order to achieve a common goal and they seemed to grasp the idea pretty well. The activity gave them a great deal of excitement and I think it helped them to understand how important it is to collaborate with each other so as to achieve a common product. I divided the labor of making a poster among each member of the class, so everybody was in charge of doing something, everybody was responsible for something and no one felt left-out. It was rewarding to see how they assisted one another with the different jobs of making a poster. It was very motivating to see them in action, learning through a “Joint Productive Activity”, collaborating, providing assistance. It is relevant to mention that this activity definitely helps to keep children under control and avoid discipline problems since they keep active creating, making, doing something they like.

My Partner Professional Dialogue!

I found the partner dialogue really helpful so as to improve our teaching practice. It is definitely a great opportunity to reflect on our own teaching. I agreed with one of my partners to carry out this activity. I shared with my partner the lesson plan in advance so that he could take a look at it and give me some useful advice. We talked about the language development activities that were stated in my lesson plan so we discussed the questions stated in Step 4. My partner came up with really interesting points and ideas to improve my lesson plan.

Post-reflection dialogue report
  1. What aspects of the development of your unit plan did you find useful?
  2. What did you find was not useful?
  3. Suggestions for improvement? Concerns?
  4. Do you have suggestions for how we might continue or follow up this work and dialogue?

I found some aspects of the development of my lesson plan useful. For example, the timing and the opportunities for recycling pointed out by my partner. I think to improve it, I have to work on timing. I usually find it hard to deal with timing, that's always been one of my concerns about my teaching. Another problem is the interaction patterns. I think I really need to work on that. We might follow this work and dialogue up with other partners. We could share our ideas so as to improve our teaching.
