This wonderful journey has come to an end!

This wonderful journey has come to an end. I have to say I am very pleased with everything I learned and all the nice experiences I went through during my Social Service. Even though my receiving institution is not a public school, many students were able to benefit from my social service. Most students got engaged in activities which helped them to improve their language skills to a great extent. The school does not offer learners this kind of service for free; learners would have to pay if they wanted to engage in a conversation course, for instance. After having carried out interviews, analyzed students’ performance and reflected on the overall outcomes of the courses, I’ve drawn the conclusion that it was really useful for students since students who actively participated in the presentations and in the conversation course considerably improved their speaking and writing skills. I am also pleased to have been able to help organize and make material such as cues and visuals so that teachers can use them in their classrooms. I am really grateful to the receiving institution for having given me the opportunity to carry out my social service there. Thanks everybody for everything I learned and for all the wonderful experiences I went through during my social service.

About to call it a day!

The Social Service is coming to an end and the students, who are taking part of it, are not happy about that. I’ll share some of the things I did during the last weeks. I made material, visuals and cues. I laminated the visuals to keep them in good condition. I promoted the presentations and worked on planning them. They are really helping learners improve their communication and writing skills. I kept on working with the group of children. They had the chance to engage in making some projects and share them with other classes. I continued with the conversation course. Some of the students who are attending the presentations joined us in the Conversation course. I planned my classes. I also reflected on my performance and as well as on my students’ performance. This has helped me a lot to improve by making changes.

I’ll get back soon!

It's going well!

For the last two weeks I have kept working hard to achieve my goals. The presentations and the conversation course are really helping many students to improve their communicative skills and their writing skills. Students are very pleased with this project. A few students haven't been able to attend the presentations due to their jobs but they hope to be back later this week. Anyway, I think I am helping them achieve their goals.

Making material has been very helpful for the school, teachers are very pleased to have enough and effective material in their classrooms. It definitely helps them achieve their goals in the classroom.

The children class is going well. It´s been a little bit hard since some of them have some problems with the structure, the problem is they do not have any previous experience with the language. These students do not have English classes in their schools so it makes it a bit harder for them to pick up the language.

I have been observing students' performance in order to evaluate the results of this project at the end of the term. At the same time, I am providing students with feedback so that they keep on enhancing their language skills.

Joint Productive Activity!

Joint Productive Activity

Report and Reflections

This time I decided to carry out this activity with the group of children I am working with at my receiving institution. I helped these wonderful and unquiet children to create a joint product. “Posters for daily routines” I began by encouraging collaboration among them, we talked about the importance of collaborating in order to achieve a common goal and they seemed to grasp the idea pretty well. The activity gave them a great deal of excitement and I think it helped them to understand how important it is to collaborate with each other so as to achieve a common product. I divided the labor of making a poster among each member of the class, so everybody was in charge of doing something, everybody was responsible for something and no one felt left-out. It was rewarding to see how they assisted one another with the different jobs of making a poster. It was very motivating to see them in action, learning through a “Joint Productive Activity”, collaborating, providing assistance. It is relevant to mention that this activity definitely helps to keep children under control and avoid discipline problems since they keep active creating, making, doing something they like.
